RAP SHOW - KCHUNG RADIO

Continuing on a radio wave, first heard about this pirate station because of Jason Dill's Fucking Awesome show last year which has now stopped but via Sex Magazine I found out about this show - by the art collective Zen Mafia - after reading Venus X's in-detail interview about her GHE2OGOTH1K parties which you should check here

A real varied mix featuring YG, Nas, G Rap, Lil Ugly Mane, Lil Kim, Waka, E-40, 2 Chainz & Jada, Lloyd Banks, Jeremih, Rocky even G-Dep get a spin. Mixed by Nate Walton (I think) who also takes dope photos here. Shows broadcast at  Wednesdays 9pm LA time here. There's also an archive of all the shows to listen. Rap Show Tumblr.
KCHUNG broadcasts 5 days a week (Sun - Thurs)

Between this and Purple Tape Pedigree's  Fresh out the box can't go wrong.

GTA V : RADIO

'Thanks to science of music you don't need musical talent to make great music'

GTA V is upon. Clearly I don't have it otherwise I wouldn't be writing this post. The radio stations have always been top but this time round it seems like the really nailed it.

Between West Coast Classic, Radio Los Santos, Lee Scratch Perry's Blue Ark Fm , Lowdown FM, Gilles Peterson's Worldwide FM, Flylo FM , Bootsy Collins' Space 103.2, and West Coast Talk there's enough to keep me happy.

Going on a killing spree to Gangsta Gibbs and Love Sosa is like a dream come true. There's even 100s on there who can provide the perfect sound track to any drive by.

More to the point it is exposure for a lot of artists both new and old. The more people listening to Quik the better.

TINK FT MIKEY DOLLAZ - MONEY MONEY (OFFICIAL VIDEO)

DJ EZ - FABRICLIVE 71

DJ EZ. Selector Extraordinaire. Cue Button Don. Nike Ambassador. Straight up (UK)G. To say he has carried the scene on his back is an understatement. Coming up to 20 years in the game he is showing no sign of slowing down with the release of his Fabriclive CD. This man deserves and OBE, eyebrow slits or something. Whilst most top dj's that have been in a scene for that long turn to jump up or its equally shit equivalent he has stayed (more or less) true to the sound whilst simultaneously pushing the newcomers. I've never had the pleasure of meeting him personally but from seeing him in action and from reading interviews he seems like one the most decent people in the business - motivated simply by music and becoming better; I'm not sure there's that much room for (technical) improvement though.

I was first introduced to him when I got Pure Garage II for my birthday. Not living in London my knowledge of garage was previously limited to Craig David, Sweet Female Attitude, 702,Artful Dodger & Bound 4 Da Reload (anything on MTV basically) and then this CD came along and opened my eyes. I had only known garage in it's pop form so this DOUBLE CD of soulful vocals and heavy basslines pretty much melted my brain. For more brain melting check his now legendary Boiler Room mix. And if you need further assistance Blackdown breaks it down hereHe brings more vibes in 15 minutes than anyone. Ever. But yeh, his Fabriclive is exactly what we've come expect from him, and as good as his brand is; it is getting slightly predictable. Now, this won't stop me from going to see him play out but  at the same time I wanted to be rushing to discogs or at least drawing for my gun finger but all it made do is want to draw for this CD again.

PUSHA T - NOSETALGIA (FEAT KENDRICK LAMAR)

JJ BURTON - OHH BAY!!!

Through some turn of shuffle fate  'Winter Blues' came on way home -

I decided to check if they'd done anything new and came across this. A new project of Jneiro's with Scott Burton and Reginald pace of Bon Iver that's coming out on his own Label Who imprint soon. Perfect Sunday music it's just a shame there's no repeat button on soundcloud.

DPAT - IN BLOOM

Summer is over. Light your fires or, alternatively, turn on the heating, grab your throws, slippers, hot chocolate and other winter time accessories you feel necessary ( a partner is mandatory). Buy this album. The rest is up to you.

Following up Sango's North LP which I talked about here Soulection hit us with the goodness. The 23 year old H-Town  native already has a credit on Wiz Khalifa's album on a track that features The Weeknd and samples Ginuwine's 'Tell Me Do U Wanna' (one of my top 10 all time) so it won't be long before the secret is fully out. The live guitar piano and vocal give it an organic vibe that is lacking in a lot of the new wave of R&B but that said, it is an extremely polished body of work. The tracks are distinguishable and fortunately still melt together because once you put it on you and your other half(ves) won't be going anywhere, at least, for the album's 35 minutes apart from to hit repeat.

THE HYDRA : 3 CHAIRS

DEVIATION - OCT 4TH W/ BOK BOK, KELELA & ARTWORK

Although I'm still to fragile to think about going out this is most certainly gonna be a vibe. Night Slugs and Fade To Mind are everywhere at the moment which can only mean that Kelela's mixtape is going to drop very very soon. Witness the takeover - Buy tickets.

CAS - YOU MIGHT BE SCARED

Always visually on point the masked chemist is back at it again with his own brand raw, socio-politcial raps with the visual concept to match. He revives Breakage's cinematic remix of Clare Maguire with it's sparseness allowing his lyrics to hit harder than ever.

FUTURE - HONEST (OFFICIAL VIDEO)

The Emotional King of R&G steps into the confessional for a new video for Metro & Spinz produced banger  'Honest' - he doesn't quite top The Dream's helicopter power stance but between the two watches, the grand piano, the vintage cars, and  the vintage lens filters and the Inverness cape he comes through with the goods once again.

SUNDAY BEST PRESENTS BESTIVAL 2013 : 10TH ANNIVERSARY

After checking the weather forecast all week I knew the chances of me trading in the palatial luxury of my home for a weekend of abject squalor masquerading as fun were slim. However, due to the persuasive techniques of my main migo I somehow found myself waiting for a ferry at Southampton on the Friday at 22.30pm.  After getting lost on what I thought was a minute island we eventually got our bands, made the last artist transfer and were in at midnight. The van radio was playing Hackney Parrot, Ray Keith's Terrorist in the campsite, and Fabio or Grooverider dropped True Romance VIP at the Redbull Stage just as we walked in so if all else failed at least I'd had my fair share of jungle.

It was hard to leave our new masked friends but Rob Da Bank's Sunday Best Tent was calling. Big up to my man Nick at Sunday Best for the hook ups, Andy and any of the Sunday Best family that we didn't meet. We arrived at the jam packed cardboard tent with Nick, who had been on since 6 o'clock, still going strong.

We ended up going b2b for a few hours warming up nicely for the weekend. Only tune I remember but if you were in there then you know it got X-Rated. We'll be playing alongside Sascha Dive next month so come catch a vibe.

We were woken up from our yak induced slumber by what sounded like someone being sick into a mic. Not the most gentle alarm clock but still effective.

Big up Nidal, Lorelle and Reprezent radio crew and an extra big dap for Yianni of Meat Liquor for feeding us then ensuring the rest of the day was spent bleary eyed. If you haven't tried one yet you are missing out. They'll be opening in Brighton in September for those outside London.
Highlights of the festival were undoubtedly Tuba Gooding Jnr, parents covering their kids eyes during Snoop's on stage lap dance, Chic (why is it now Chic ft Nile?), I don't remember seeing Sir Elton but I was supposedly there so I'll claim it...EZ, Oneman, Evian Christ and and last but not least Lionel Richie.

Our festival ended in a surreal fashion in the seaside resort of Sandown. We were the easily the only people there under 70. Our hotel was half pirate ship, half old people's home and it was these same geriatrics that destroyed us in the pub quiz. Although we were granted passage back across the Acheron to the land of the living I'm still not feeling fully normal but I recorded a mix to provide an aural remedy for everyone in the same boat.

What struck me most about Bestival was how clean and green it was - everyone cleaned up after themselves so big up Rod Da Bank for attracting a clean crowd and hiring a slick cleaning team. My mind has been seriously changed on what a festival can be.

AN INTRODUCTION TO : TEREKKE

It's nice to put a face to producer who's records you've bought. Seeing the laid back set up of his 'rhythm factory' definitely explains his lo fi dubbed out sound. And he's nailed the writing process - jamming on the sofa.

His latest YYYYYYYYYY EP is out now on Ron Morelli's weird and wonderful L.I.E.S. On that note, I've been waiting for my Delroy Edwards repress for a couple months now so hopefully it will arrive soon - '4 Club Use Only' moves me differently!
